Planning

Long-term care can wipe out a lifetime of hard work.
Education and planning are key to helping families make appropriate decisions when faced with the devastating and costly reality of nursing home confinement.

What seniors don’t know about Medi-Cal, we do.
There is a fear factor in facing nursing home confinement. The high cost of care, averaging a 2 1/2 year stay, can wipe out a family’s hard-earned assets. Thrust into this potentially impoverishing circumstance, seniors worry about losing their home and savings, protecting the financial security of the at-home spouse, and preserving the legacy they want to leave to their children.

Qualify for aid while protecting your assets
Effective January 1, 2000, seniors must be notified in writing of the new standards regarding Medi-Cal eligibility and applicants’ rights to transfer assets to protect themselves, their spouses or their families. Within these legal guidelines, seniors may qualify for aid while protecting assets and their home.

New standards for Medi-Cal eligibility
The standards that can help seniors retain their assets are constantly changing. Annual guidelines are provided that state the amount of assets applicants and if applicable, the spouses of applicants may protect. If properly handled, an applicant’s home can also be protected.
